LA WEEKLY SELECTS GOMES SHOW AS THE MUSIC PICK OF THE WEEK

February 08, 2019

LA Weekly picked Gomes's recent show in Tarzana, CA as their 'show of the week':

"Bluesman Anthony Gomes describes himself as the classic triple threat — guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. And it’s tough to put together a convincing argument against that. In fact, Blues Revue Magazine said that “Gomes’ formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues,” while none other than B.B. King said, “A very talented guitarist... and where did that voice come from?" That’s high praise but completely deserved. The Canadian artist, now living in St. Louis, has put out 13 awesome albums since kicking off in 1998, including last year’s killer Peace, Love & Loud Guitars. It’ll be cool to see him in this relatively intimate setting. The Terraplanes also play."

AMERICAN BLUES SCENE WORLDWIDE PREMIERE OF NEW ANTHONY GOMES TRACK

October 15, 2018

American Blues Scene offered the World Premiere of the new Gomes Track "Your Mama Wants To Do Me (And Your Daddy Wants To Do Me In).

"t’s always exciting to release a world premiere track," writes ABS, "more so when that song comes from someone as talented as Anthony Gomes. The blues rocker will release his 13th album Peace, Love & Loud Guitars on Friday, October 19th via his own Up2Zero label.

12 new, original songs cover topics from lost love to acknowledgement of the past and from salvation to primal urges. “Your Mama Wants To Do Me (And Your Daddy Wants To Do Me In)” is from the latter category. However, its clever lyrics are much more than that. It combines honky tonk story-telling with a game of The Dozens. Think Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Gimme Three Steps” meets a “Yo Mama” joke and you’ll start to get the idea.

Anthony says of the song, “Mama always said, ‘Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go backstage’.” That sums it up in a nutshell. Gomes has always had a shrewd lyrical style, and on this track he combines it with some searing wah-wah guitar effects, hand clapping, and killer backing vocals from Angie Primm, Gale Stuart, and Devonne Fowlkes."

THIRD SINGLE FROM 'PEACE, LOVE & LOUD GUITARS' OUT NOW

October 08, 2018

Gomes releases his third track, the swaggering boogie shuffle 'The Whiskey Made Me Do It.'  Anthony defends chasing his girlfriend’s sister due to “drinking triples and seeing double, acting single, now I’m in trouble,” leading to “We woke up naked on the hood of a car, the police said, ‘son, you took it too far’,” while flashing slashing slide guitar chops.

ANTHONY RELEASES SECOND SINGLE AND VIDEO

September 28, 2018

Gomes has just released 'Stealin' From The Devil,' the second single and video from his forthcoming album 'Peace, Love & Loud Guitars.'  The song, now available for streaming on Spotify and iTunes, features an animated video of the Canadian guitar hero on a supernatural adventure.

“In ‘Stealing From The Devil’ we pay tribute to Robert Johnson and create our own Crossroads legend,” says Gomes.  “I’ve always had a lot of sympathy for Johnson. It might be because I know firsthand how difficult it can be to ‘make it’ in the music business and how many of us go to great lengths to find fame and fortune. In this song I am on a mission to find some justice! I  go down to hell, rescue Robert, battle the Prince of Darkness, rip up the Deed to the bluesman’s soul, hotwire the Devil’s Cadillac and floor it to the Pearly Gates. You know, just the boring, regular everyday stuff us musicians do.”

GOMES COMPARED TO JOE BONAMASSA BY BLUES ROCK REVIEW

October 01, 2017

Pete Francis, Editor of Blues Rock Review Magazine, compared Anthony to Joe Bonamassa in the latest Blues Rock Review video.

"Anthony Gomes is another artist worth checking out if you like Joe Bonamassa.  Anthony is no stranger to the blues and blues rock scene.  He made his debut album back in 1998 and he has been putting out quality stuff ever since.  Like Joe Bonamassa, he is someone who has relentlessly toured all over and has consistently put out good albums.  Anthony Gomes has very distinctive raw powerful vocals, great guitar player, good songwriter.  Something that I also think is important about Anthony Gomes is if you take Joe Bonamassa as a model of the music industry and how his career has run, I think Anthony Gomes is similar in that respect.  Not only is he a professional musician but he markets himself very well, he has a professional looking website and very good social media.  I think this is important for artists in this day and age. Anthony Gomes serves well as a model for other independent musicians. So, if you like Joe Bonamassa, definately check out Anthony Gomes."
