Best Led Zeppelin Album? The Ultimate Album Match Up
The mighty Led Zeppelin! The super group was founded in 1968 by former Yardbirds guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound helped fill the void of the recently disbanded Cream and has lead them to be cited as one of the architects of heavy metal.
Originally called the 'New Yardbirds', the band changed their name when Who drummer Kieth Moon remarked that they would go down like a 'lead balloon". Later, Who bassist John Enthwhistle claimed that he had been the author of the group's name.
Their name also refers to their dynamic range. Part of what made the band's sound so heavy was the contrast of heavy guitars, wailing vocals and explosive drums with their softer, acoustic moments.
What are the best Led Zeppelin albums? This is such an interesting discussion because each of their releases are so different from each other. This is what makes it so difficult and the debate so heated.
I am fan of their blues rock roots sound and how they pushed the music into other areas. It is impossible to really pick a favorite because they are all so good. But if I had to, after painful deliberation here are my favorite Led Zeppelin albums ranked in order:
9. The Song Remains The Same
8. In Through The Out Door
6. Led Zeppelin I
5. Houses of the Holy
4. Led Zeppelin III
3. Physical Graffiti
2. Led Zeppelin II
1. Untitled (aka Led Zeppelin IV)
